Taubman Museum of Art Architecture Keepsake
The Taubman Museum of Art opened its doors on November 8, 2008. Construction of the building caught the attention of many, with its stunning contemporary architecture set against the backdrop of historic downtown Roanoke.
Designed by Knoxville, Tennessee, native Randall Stout, the facility features a unique composition of steel, glass, zinc paneling, and even Hokie stone from Virginia Tech in nearby Blacksburg.
The new home of what was formerly known as the Art Museum of Western Virginia is now a much beloved fixture on the city's landscape and a desired destination for those eager to experience world-class art.
Along with its permanent collection, which boasts works by influential artists such as John Singer Sargent, Thomas Eakins, Norman Rockwell, and more, the Taubman hosts rotating exhibitions from a range of regional, national, and international artists.
Recognized by Architectural Digest as one of the 50 best designed museums in the United States, the Taubman Museum of Art is housed in a true work of art itself.
